Delaware may be the second smallest state in the union, but it punches above its weight. In fact, the current president calls Delaware home, and he is famously attached to the state. Bringing on a new employee can be exciting, but there’s often a lot to do as well. You want to onboard your new hire as quickly and smoothly as possible to ensure their success at your organization. But before you get started with onboarding, you’ll need to register your company with the state of Delaware.
Register your business in Delaware in two easy steps:
- First you’ll need to register online with Delaware One Stop to get your withholding account number and UC Employer account number. Keep in mind that if you operate a construction company, there is a special registration process.
- If you are an out-of-state business that employs a Delaware resident, you may register as a withholding agent only for free on Delaware One Stop.
Keep in mind that if you operate in Wilmington, you’ll need to fill out and mail in this form so that you can pay the city's Earned Income Tax and Head Tax.
Delaware One Stop allows you to register for your Delaware Business License as well as with the Division of Revenue and the Department of Labor. Once you’ve completed the registration process, you can print out your temporary license right away. Your permanent license will be mailed to you within 10 business days. Delaware One Stop also has a number of learning resources that can walk you through how to register your business.
Once you’re registered with Delaware One Stop, you’ll be able to register new employees, file wage reports, and submit unemployment taxes.
